So I have this UI part of a mobile app. The mint rectangle is produced programmatically by the iOS devs. The arrow is an image which I created in Sketch, uploaded to Zeplin and the devs exported it from there.
The issue is that when they combine these two together and I see the final design on an iPhone I get this difference of colours. In Sketch I don't see a difference and the RGB codes are the same. My colour profile in Sketch is sRBG.
What should I do to this arrow so my design is the same with the final product?

If you're using Mac OS X then there are a couple of apps that do what you need.
The Unarchiver (free)
File Juicer (demo, €14 for full version)
Drop a PDF on either of these and it will extract the text, images and any other contents in a lossless way.

I know that by using stacks you can remove an inconsistent item (people say) on top of a consistent background (a town square say) as long as you have enough images (preferably from a fixed point using a tripod) so it can work out the pixels that vary and delete them.
However, surely the opposite must be true and there must be a way of selecting consistant pixels across multiple layers and deleting those, leaving the inconsistant pixels in place - in other works armed with a set of photographs of a street with a few people walking about (and even a photo of the completely empty street) PS should be able to delete the background and isolate the people?

I have an Illustrator document that I need to place an image from Photoshop into.
The original images are in .psd and .eps formats.
What are the best formats to save the original image in to import to Illustrator? I want to use the best format so when I export from Illustrator to the final image I don't lose quality.
For instance, a .jpg if I need a version for the web and a .tiff if I need a version to print.
I used to take the original image in Photoshop and export it to a .tiff and then import that into Illustrator.
Is that the best option to preserve the maximum quality?
: Re: How to make rounded corners from shapes drawn with lines? I am trying to make a shape like this: And so far in Illustrator, I've drawn this: Now, I know how to make a rectangle/square
As Johannes mentioned, Joining or using the pen tool is the way to go.
You don't need to go to round corners from effects.
(Once you've joined the lines, or made them with the pen tool)
You can set the stroke to automatically round the corners.
Open the strokes panel (Window → Stroke or Ctrl+F10)
And set the corners to Round Join

Vinyl cutters often reduce photos to pure black and pure white for rendering in one color of vinyl against another color background. Popular tools for this are apps like Adobe Capture, the threshold command in Photoshop, etc. This is often referred to as "stencil" style, but that seems inadequate because these images are not usually valid stencils because of trapped white space. "Vectorized" also seems inadequate because that can also refer to multi-color images. I am wondering what the technical term for this type of processed image would be.

I tried to change preferences or scale the bones itself, but it don't work properly. I don't know how to "reset" the skeleton either, so it would came back to default size and position.

If you haven't done ignore white... (it's too late for whatever reason) you can use pathfinder divide to separate (divide) all the objects and then delete the white parts. An easy way to delete all of the white parts is to go into isolate mode (double click on group, or from the right click menu), then use the magic wand tool to select the white fill objects. (or the select > same fill)

While many people thing they are good writers, few actually are.
I'm often given content in a word document—often consisting entirely of a bulleted list (and often with sub-lists nested within bullets)—and given a task such as "make this into a brochure" or "make this look pretty" or "put this on the website".
Content like this is often the result of writing-by-committee, where text has already gone through higher-ups (and may have been written by said powers that be), so making changes can be tricky. Often the change requested (especially for short content) is basically a re-write using the old content as an outline, but there might not be one person that was responsible for the content to spearhead revisions. There is also the risk of offending someone or having them dig-in on the current text.
In situations like this, what are some effective strategies for getting better text? What are some "good writing" guidelines that can be given to a client to produce better text without making them feel like I'm telling them they are a bad writer.

I am making some 3D graphics meant to be viewed using Chromadepth 3D glasses.
My question is, is the 3D effect linear over virtual distance, or is the change in effect nonlinear and stronger at short distances than long distances? E.g.
color = arctan(distance from camera)
I can ask on the physics forum instead.

When I'm exporting in InDesign, the compression settings say that I am able to change the dpi and chose the format of the compression.
Does this mean that if I select 72 dpi and JPEG format all the images in the document will be converted to this specification?
: Re: Remove graph/grid background from a ECG-like readout in inkscape/ImageJ I have this graph below, which shows a readout for an experiment on a graph background like this; I would like to remove
I didn't initially notice the inkscape tag, though I'm sure it has similar (if not same) tools and it could work.
I would use Photoshop and adjust the levels.
If you first convert the image to grayscale (Image → Mode → Grayscale) there won't be any color
Now doing this will leave some color there.
Using Black and white filter to remove the excess coloring (I dragged the yellows and reds to white)
Now use some manual touch up (brush work or eraser) to get this:
: Re: Illustrator - How to change the color of the line between two anchor points How can I change the color of the (anchor handle and path) lines that illustrator shows between two points? Example:
Those lines will be whatever color you have selected for your layer.
If your layer is black, then those will also be black.
Just change the color of your layer by double clicking on the layer and selecting a different color.
To open the Layer Panel, go to Window → Layer or hit F7
There is a list of colors to choose from, but if you'd like you can also select custom and choose any color you want.
: Re: Join two paths with a border This is probably far easier than I'm making it out to be.. I have this path that I duplicated and reflected but since both paths have a border I'm not sure
Just use the shape builder tool. (Shift+M)
Select both Shapes
Using the shape builder tool, drag and connect them.
They should now be merged into one shape
You can also use the Pathfinder [Window → Pathfinder or Shift + Ctrl/Cmd + F9]
Again, select both shapes, and hit the Unite Button

Second answer as this is a different approach which may work in your scenario (depending on how your pattern was made).
Much simpler (if it does in fact work)
You can just select the pattern and drag it into your swatches panel, your pattern is now a swatch
You can now make a huge square (3x the size) and apply it with that pattern as a fill (from the swatches).

Using the (new) Asset Export, you can export them as .SVG
You will just have to drag them into there and then go through with the export.
It isn't .AI however, they are vector and you can open up .SVG in Illustrator and still apply actions (batch) to them.

: Re: how to add different colors to multiple segments in a circle I have created a circle and divided it into 4 sections via the pen tool. My problem is that I am unable to completely fill
The reason I'm adding another answer, is that this doesn't answer the question, but is a much simpler way to (symmetrically) create the shape you are making:
Create your circle using the Ellipse Tool
Duplicate your circle and resize it to 50%
Now create 4 clones of this smaller shape (Ctrl+C : Ctrl+F) x4
Move your 4 shapes 1 in each direction (to line up with the end of the bigger circle)
Select the shapes and use the shape builder tool to combine them by the dotted lines to looks like
[Shape Builder Result]
Change the shapes to desired color
Since in my example I had the swirls running the opposite direction, here it is in the correct direction (just join them in the other direction - or if it's too late you can just reflect it)
: Re: Embed files to an illustrator project I dragged and drop some PSD files into a project in Illustrator CS5. I want to remove them from my desktop, but if I do that, then they will disappear
What you are trying to do is to embed the file to your project, rather than linking it.
That can be done by
Selecting the file in the Links panel (Window→Links), and choosing Embed Image from the dropdown menu.
Note, that embedding the images can (and most likely significantly) increase your artwork size.

: Re: Smart guides aren't smart TL:DR Smart guides aren't accurate - even though the snap, (end up causing more problems in the long run) is there a way to fix it? Maybe there are some settings
Apparently, all this has nothing to do with Smart Guides.
Check if Align New Objects to Pixel Grid selected (if so, turn it off)
If it's on... it will keep on jumping like this:
To turn it off, go to the Transform Panel - Window→Transform (Shift+F8) and click on the dropdown menu.
It's often missed since it's hidden in the transform panel, which I never use anyhow.
: Re: Export in multi sizes with illustrator create several icons I designed a set of icons for a website in Illustrator CC. What would be the difference between using Illustrator CC's tool to export
Drawing the icons in different sizes also means updating designs in different sizes. When every change means 3 changes, it can quickly get messy and inconsistent.
To make it clear: The @1x ; @2x , @4x exports are usually intended for creating assets for different screen resolutions (72dpi, 144dpi, 288dpi) of the exact same icon design. This is a typical requirement ie. when designing for mobile apps. So a "16x16px" icon for a hi-res screen with 288dpi (@4x) is actually 64x64px but will not look larger than 16x16, just sharper. These export settings simplify the export for an asset generation workflow, but you don't have to use them.
If you want to design different icon sizes, ie. like responsive icons where each size has unique features, or size step requirements do not match the @1x ; @2x , @4x steps, you should draw the icons in the sizes you want to export, on single artboards or slices, however you prefer.

The answer of @Billy Kerr is right in Windows. I have a mac and it does not work.
I have a Mac, so I have to go first to XQuartz (general menu up left) > Preferences > Input > "Option keys send Alt_L and Alt_R"
With that, Alt + click will select the top object, the second click will select the object behind and so on.
If you have a Mac Mouse (Magic Mouse) it also works alt + finger up and down to the surface (that's the equivalent of the scroll wheel in other mouses)

If I understand if I want to create a mask all the objects must be in the same layer. (if previously are in different layers, they move to one layer only). I find difficult to keep organized when I have many objects in the same layer. For instance, I have shadows behind some objects and I cannot even select them and make changes. My question is what is the best way to organize different objects in the same layer in Inkscape? How to select an object that is in the bottom of the layer and it's very close to other objects?
: Re: Is there an automatic tool that can crawl a live site and generate both a visual sitemap and single-page screenshots? Is there an automatic tool that can crawl a live site and generate both
If you're not afraid of coding you can do this with Python:
w = gtk.gdk.get_default_root_window()
sz = w.get_size()
print "The size of the window is %d x %d" % sz
pb = gtk.gdk.Pixbuf(gtk.gdk.COLORSPACE_RGB,False,8,sz,sz)
pb = pb.get_from_drawable(w,w.get_colormap(),0,0,0,0,sz,sz)
if (pb != None):
print "Screenshot saved to screenshot.png."
print "Unable to get the screenshot."
Reference: Python: Taking a screenshot
If you're on a Mac you could do this with AppleScript:
tell application "Safari"
set winID to id of window 1
do shell script "screencapture -c -x -l " & winID
Reference: Applescript - Take Screenshot of ENTIRE Web Page - Safari
If Python isn't your flavor then you could do this with wget and there's a good gist write up: "Use wget to mirror a single page and its visible dependencies (images, styles)"
As far as an application I'm not aware I just do mine in the terminal but if I happen to be browsing and I like a site that gives me ideas on another way I could build something I use Awesome Screenshot for Chrome.

: Re: Changing the opacity of stroke Is it possible to adjust opacity of stroke without interfering with the fill of the shape because every time i try to adjust both changes.
Stoke and fill opacity are independent.
There are three opacity settings shown on the Fill and Stroke pane; one each on the Fill and Stroke tabs and those only affect those. Below everything else is Blur(%) and Opacity (%). Those settings apply to the whole object.
Opacity for the stroke or fill is actually part of its color. It is the color channel labeled A (for alpha). Opacity 255 is solid; 0 is fully transparent.
It sounds like you are changing the slider labeled opacity below the Fill and Stroke tabs. Again, that opacity is for the entire object. Change the alpha channel in the stroke color instead.

Browsers display an additional spacing around the text elements.
Refer to this question to see it in action.
How much spacing it is added, is determined by HHead Ascent and Descent values as stated here
I am trying to update a font to be displayed without upper and bottom spacing, therefore I fixed this values to be the same as Ascender and Descender. I am using Font Forge.
I than use this font in a browser, but to my surprise, the top and bottom spacing is till there. What am I missing here?
