 query : Re: Is an 85% bounce rate measured by Google Analytics a red flag? I am trying to understand the bounce rate concept in Google analytics.I have a blog focused on technical stuff (Java, Spring etc.)

@Michele947

Should I consider such a high bounce rate as a red flag?

Umesh, you don't have enough information to make a decision here. The only thing this 85% shows is that those 85% of your visitors are

either do a one page view and then exit.
or they do view multiple pages... but in different sessions. It is happening when the second pageview happens after a session duration time (30 min default if I correctly remember)

So in order to make a decision here you have to collect more data to at least understand which of the two options above is the case.

To do that you need to use events. Set up a JS code triggered let's say on 30 secods, 1 minute, 2, 5 and then every 5 minutes (that's the easiest option to code) and take a look at the results. This simple action will help you to:

clarify how much time your visitors stay on your pages.
what is the "real" bounce rate. After this change it will show bounces only for the pageviews less than 30 seconds.
decide what to do next.

PS: keep in min that this will increase the amount of actions sent to GA. You may touch your free limits in case your blog is popular enough.

First of all, Focus on Keyword Research than anything else. Because if you don't choose right keywords for your business then you cant do well but efforts remain too much.
But with Right Keywords, you can compete with big giants with fewer Backlinks.

Then On page SEO. (Your 70% Game depends upon these 2 points)

Then start Backlinks.

the Best Strategy for this is Copying Competitors BL Profile. it is the Easiest and best method to save time and Efforts.

Outreach Also another best method. use Ahrefs for Backlinks (broken, new, Competitors and everything)

You can also exchange Links with your clients where they don't compete with each other and with their permission.

Posted in: #Php #Security #Uploading

I have a website which allows users to upload their files (say, like attachments to messages in forums). ~90% of the files are pictures and the rest are .zip.rar and similar types. So, user provides a file and ID of the entity heshe wants to attach the file to and the website does following:

For images performing checking the size
For all files performs check with clamav
If above checks passed, then puts the file to <website>/miscfiles/files/$user_or_post_id/<the same filename> or <website>/images/$user_or_post_id/<the same filename>

In the meantime, on other websites I often saw that the website obfuscates filename somehow, like avatar.jpg -> 26231062_936429879837960_3913793953388262138_n.jpg

I wonder, how important is this "obfuscating" filename part, should I implement it on my website? What are the well-known ways to do it, use random strings, take md5 hash, something else?

Those "they" should also have a development environment where they do development of the website before putting it into production. So all you need to do is to work with them in order to get access to one of those environment and do what you need.

Most probabbly it is going to looks like

@Michele947

This is a double-edged sword. CSS is normally set to be cached for a very long time in order to optimize your website loading timings after the 1st load. Hence the line in your .htacccess file. Don't change it until you really know what you are doing.

In case your website is not using CMS (I have to assume here since you didn't provide enough details) you'd rather change a link to that changed resource file (CSS in this case) by adding a query string. Something like this

/css_directory/file.css?001

Any time you update CSS - change that value after ?.

This is what CMS-based websites normally do out of the box. This way you have control over what's being server to your visitors while not wasting their bandwidth on re-checking your supposed-to-be-static content (CSS) every hour.

(Originally posted on Stack Overflow)

I'd like to load and play a smaller HEVC-encoded video on web browsers with support for it.

I'm using this code on Safari 11 (macOS 10.13), which has support for the HEVC format.

<video muted playsinline autoplay>
<source src="clip.webm" type="video/webm; codecs=vp9">
<source src="clip-hevc.mp4" type="video/mp4; codecs=hevc">
<source src="clip.mp4" type="video/mp4; codecs=avc1">
<p>Video not supported</p>
</video>

In Web Inspector > Network Panel, I see that Safari loads both clip.mp4 and clip-hevc.mp4. If I inspect the video element, I see that clip.mp4 is playing, not clip-hevc.mp4. I see the same thing on iOS 11.

When I call HTMLMediaElement.canPlayType() on the types I specified, I get

maybe on video/mp4; codecs=hevc
probably on video/mp4; codecs=avc1
Nothing on variants of the HEVC codec I've seen (e.g., hvc1, hev1)

Something else I noticed: When I remove the clip.mp4 option, clip-hevc.mp4 downloads and plays just fine!

How can I make sure that only the best supported MP4 variant downloads and plays in the browser?

The most reliable way is from the web-server logs. By referrer field. But keep in mind that this field (1) can be cleared and (2) it will not disclose the HTTP code. So you can't filter out only 301 redirects. That's to the best of my knowledge.
The next semi-reliable way is to use Google Analytics or Google Search Console as mentioned already. Reliability is lower since it won't show you data about the users with Ad blocking software.

"What should I do". As an immediate action I'd set a rule in web-server config (e.g. .htaccess) to respond with 404 to that. 404 is in case you have no /index.php as a valid path on your server. Dong so will at least drop load from your interpreter (I assume it's PHP).
Next I'd put a rule in robots.txt to forbid such a path from indexing. It should completely stop Google from crawling those URIs and stop spending crawl budget on them.
After that I'd search for links to your site using one of those URIs. Who knows, maybe it will help you to find the reason where those links are coming to Google from. What if that's your own site?

That's it I think.

PS 301 is not a good idea I think. From my experience Bot will be coming back from time to time to confirm that redirection is still there. I guess that's not what you want. Moreover 404 is really fits better per definition.

I wanted to submit my website on my own Debian Apache2 server to the HSTS preload list.

It told me I have several things incorrectly set up, so I made adjustments, now it seems to be satisfied. There is just one thing I am unsure how it works or if I've done it correctly? The following redirection code to https and www is placed directly in a Virtual Host configuration file. Could someone have a look and explain to me how it works and if there are any errors, please suggest corrections.

RewriteCond %{HTTPS} !on
RewriteRule ^/?(.*) %{SERVER_NAME}/ [R=301]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www.(.*)$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ %1/ [R]

EDIT1:

All lines of this code are placed in HTTP (port 80) section.

EDIT2:

I am unsure whether to strip the www or add it yet. So I would welcome to see both approaches if it's not so hard to implement.

So personally, I would be concerned more about creating the quality of the content on your pages.

If you believe all the SEO articles go for it, otherwise keep it interesting for a reader.

We have a News website in dual language Bengali and English version. Recently, we propose to developer team to add meta title tags and they added meta title tags in HTML code as default News title. For example News title is "UNICEF gravely concerned over state of children in Rakhine" and Meta title is "UNICEF gravely concerned over state of children in Rakhine - Example News" They just use News Name at the ending of Meta Title Tags. It's default because we can't edit it from HTML coding. They didn't keep any option to edit or customize the Meta Title.

Meta Title Tags doesn't show in Browser Tabs Pop-up just News Title is showing at Browser Tabs Pop-up and when we search through News title in Google Search Engine that time only showing the News Title not Meta Title Tags at SERPs.

<meta name="title" content="UNICEF gravely concerned over state of children in Rakhine - Example News"/>

And also I have seen some reputed News site's they don't use any Meta Title in HTML coding. They just use News title.

Now my questions are:

How much important is to use Meta title at News Site?
Which method is using the developer team is this right or wrong?
If I don't use Meta Title as a separate Tags is there any harm to SEO?

I think that we are doing wrong. At this time what can I do?
