Is there a way to break a story by selecting a text frame and split it in two?
There is two scripts which they called and do as:
BreakFrame (shipped by application and is in the sample):
This scripts job is to break and dismember a selected text frame from a series of threaded frames (which they have one story).
SplitStory (shipped by application and is in the sample):
This scripts job is to split apart a series of threaded text frames into individual frames.
Also there is a very useful plugin called TextStitch which is free, but it needs to be run under another plugin that called APID ToolAssistant and its not free!
Is there any free script, or anybody can write a new one (with options of break before or after could be even greater) to do like this image?
: Re: How long are designers expected to keep client files? A client recently emailed me asking for the source files from a project I did for them two years ago. I don't have the source files since
I keep design, code, etc files indefinitely. It's inexpensive, and my repeat clients appreciate it - not that they're aware of it directly, but when they do come back I don't have to re-do previous work from scratch.
However, for me, there's a more important reason. While I've never been confronted with legal issues or liability, having records and files for everything I've done provides me with a little protection should someone come asking. Whether it's for IP protection (ie, inventions, trade secrets, etc), or even the unlikely possibility of a lawsuit suggesting liability for damages, I can show 1) what I did, 2) when I did it, 3) who contracted me to do the work, and 4) what the contract was.
It doesn't take much effort or time, but it does take some care. One of the biggest issues is finding old software, so when I complete a project I make sure that all the design software is also backed up, along with license information and any associated libraries/files/data necessary to rebuild the environment should the need arise. I've rarely had to pull this kind of thing out - usually by the time the software and files become incompatible with the latest versions, an entirely new version is warranted. However I've taken on old projects that were poorly maintained by others enough times to know the value of being able to rebuild an outdated environment.
However, I do charge as needed. If they're asking for files they have already purchased, and it's recent enough that it takes little effort I don't charge anything. But if they're asking for something several years old and I have to go through old media, or if they're asking for additional materials they didn't originally purchase, I'll charge them according to our original agreement, or have a discussion with them about their needs. If this is incidental to a new project they want me to do then I'll incorporate those costs into the new project. This isn't a free service, it's mostly incidental to meeting my own needs.

I have CS4 on an iMac (2011) running El Capitan. My old computer had CS1 loaded on an older iMac (2008) running Leopard 10.5. On the old computer I could print a specific page in Indesign CS1, make changes command p and it would remember the last page I printed and all the settings, I could just push enter and it would print. With the newer version I select the page I want to print, push command p and print, make changes, command p and it retains all the settings, except the page reverts to all instead of the selected page. I could learn to always retype the page number, but it is costing me a lot of paper and toner. Hard to teach an old dog new tricks. Is there a setting to fix this? Thanks, Mark

According to Pantone's website (Pantone > Help Center > Graphics
Matching PANTONE Color Manager data to PANTONE COLOR BRIDGE guide), if you export swatches from the spot Fan Deck as RGB (not LAB), you should get the same RGB/HTML values as those printed on the Color Bridge guide. I haven't tried the export, but if you double-click on individual swatches in Color Manager, they are NOT the values from the printed guides. Changing from no color profile to sRGB does not help.
So, I still manually create my Web swatches using the Color Bridge information, as there doesn't seem to be a solution from Pantone. Not really surprising that a printed ink company doesn't make screen representations a priority.

In Photoshop CC, whenever I use the soft brush on a particular area, the brush seems to be pixelated rather than it's usual smooth. When I zoom in, it only gets worse and the pixelated lines start to move in motion. Any solutions are appreciated, thanks!
: Re: Is it OK to use watermarked photos in my project which will be in my portfolio? I'm designing some websites for extending my portfolio only. And I want to put some stock image in the design,
I would not recommend you to use watermarkes pictures, and there are simple reasons for it, so first of all the watermark destroys the picture and changes the view of your whole design so it reduces the value of your product. Second of all, watermarkes pictures are often just a low resolution preview of a picture you could buy in high resulution, so your quality is not the best and you should always focus on quality before quantity. There are several other reasons for you to not use watermarkes pictures, but I guess you get the point :)
edit: you can use free stock pictures instead, check out unsplash.com - it's a open source community where everyone can upload pictures and all of them are actually great quality and free.

The different values for each county will need to not only change the text, but the object as well. For example a pie chart.

I created this logo for a client, and I now need to convert it into one color versions (all black/all white).
Because there are so many overlays of text and graphics, I am having issues changing it into one color without it becoming one big blob of unreadable text and graphics.
I am working in Illustrator CC 2018 and have tried all I can think of with compound paths and pathfinder options. I'm sure there's a way to accomplish what I need to, I just haven't found a way to get there. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions on how to make this work!
Example of issues I'm running into:
(The black lines are actually cut through to the background, they're not just black strokes.)
I have come along this far in the conversion. The last thing I'm stuck on is how to get the stroke around the text (what you see in black) to punch through to the background. I've been able to do this for the other graphics but am having trouble with the text itself. Any option I try in the pathfinder panel gives me unwanted results. What's the best way to achieve this?
I had left this project over the holidays, and when I came back to work on it today I finally figured out a way to "punch" the text through the various background items.
First, I selected the letter and added an offset path around it. I then copied and pasted [Cmd + F] that offset path a particular number of times (equal to however many background items that letter touched).
I selected one copy of that letter's offset path, added one background piece to the selection [by holding the Shift key and using the Direct Selection tool], then clicked the Minus Front option in the Pathfinder window. I repeated this process for each of that letter's offset paths and the items it touched, and then for all of the letters that needed to have the "punched through" stroke effect.
This achieved what I needed!

I need to create a 3D object starting from a flat image. I don't know how to model the shape that I need (a bottle). I know a bottle is a basic shape but I don't have much time to model it by myself. In addition, I need different shaped bottles.
Playing with Photoshop's 3D features, I noticed that if I create the 3D layer starting from a bottle image and then rotate it around it's X axis, I can somewhat obtain the shape I need, but obviously it's all messed up.
Starting from the mesh obtained this way, is it possible to obtain another mesh but with the faces pointing outwards?

Both options do not always produce the same results.
Pathfinder allows much greater control over how the paths are combined. As you can see below, I've made two hexagons to demonstrate the Shape modes in the Pathfinder Window.
The Pathfinder window has both Shape Modes and Pathfinders, but I'm just going to focus on Shape Modes
If I am to simply make a compound path from these (⌘ + 8), it treats the paths as though I've used the Exclude mode of Pathfinder.
Depending on what you're trying to achieve, this may be fine, but there are several other ways in which the pathfinder can control the combination of paths (in their panel order from left to right):
My workflow is as follows:
Select paths I wish to combine
Choose how I want them combined (Pathfinder method)
Make Compound Path after using Pathfinder

We are trying to communicate with our factory regarding a 5 color process (CMYK + 1 Pantone). For some reason something is getting lost in translation and the samples we are getting back (according to our graphics department) is not using Pantone tinting but is using screening.
We have different areas on the packaging that require different tints of the Pantone color. It may be 50% in a certain area and 100% on a different area.
How does the process work? Is the Pantone film/plate different? How do you ink 50% of a color onto a plate?

I did an illustration in Photoshop, all with Shape Layers only. All the lines are smooth and perfect within the working file. It's perfect when I export it into a png or jpg also. Problem arises when I place that exported image into another psd document. The (smooth)lines now appear jaggedy(pictured below). Note that this happens @ 100% zoom. And, the placed image is of much higher resolution than the document in which it is placed.
The original artwork was done in A3 size @ 300ppi.
The receiving document is a relatively low res 900px wide @72ppi .
I have a hunch that the problem is because of this. Can you help me find out what the problem is?

I would suggest searching for Brush or Handwritten fonts
I searched on Google Fonts and think that this one is pretty close:

I've been using Photoshop to render 2D and 3D versions of my garden designs. i'm fairly new to this technique but ended up with good results. The problem is i'm entering some projects into a competition (deadline quickly approaching) and i need to send them over as a PDFs. I didn't think this would be an issue but once I save them as PDFs and then open them in Reader I lose quality, enough for it to be an issue but not a crazy amount. This is a problem as they will be viewed and judged in this manner and won't look anywhere near their best.
I've messed around with compression settings etc, I also need to do the same thing with illustrator files and I have the exact same problem.
I have no real idea about this kind of stuff so any info would be greatly appreciated.

: Re: Where to download Sketch's version of SF font? I've been using Sketches default iOS UI library, which uses Apple's SF font. I already have a version of the SF font, but it doesn't seem to
Sounds like you already figured this out, but this is one of the top google results so I figured I'd post more links.
Apple used to provide the SF font to anyone as normal font download, but now they only allow it as a .pkg installer supposedly just for developers. Even as a developer, I had this issue:
"The San Francisco Pro Fonts installer does not allow its software to be installed here.
LINK TO GITHUB SFUIDisplay and SFUIText fonts: github.com/AppleDesignResources/SanFranciscoFont
HOWEVER!!! While these are the exact same fonts, the names are written in full. For example:
Instead of SFUIDisplay-Heavy the name is SanFranciscoDisplay-Heavy
After installing, I still had to re-assign in sketch to use "SanFranciscoDisplay-Heavy" in place of "SFUIDisplay-Heavy"
Sounds like you already had that figured out, sorry can't get you better solution, but even though it's annoying, at least this works.

I sincerely apologise for the duplicate question. I'm not sure how to add to the discussion on the original, and I don't have enough reputation to leave comments.
Here is the original question:
How to choose the right color shades/tints for branding?
The favourite answer says that tints and shades maintain the same hue value as the base colour. The problem is Material Design tints and shades don't do that, and I would take a guess that they are using the HSL model for their S/B levels:
There is quite a big difference and the Material Design colors have a much more pleasant range.
I want to gain a deeper understanding of just exactly the process they have to get these results? I presume they must have some kind of tooling to achieve the correct perceived color.
: Re: How to copy a subpath in inkscape? I have selected four vertices of a path, forming a subpath. How do I get a copy of that subpath (having four vertices)? CtrlC, CtrlV copies the whole
I don't think there is a way to copy segments. You probably will have to duplicate and break apart, or break apart at your selection.

Adobe Bridge is not capable of manipulating or editing images, in that sense. Bridge is primarily meant for browsing and managing files.
In order to edit images, you will need a raster-based editing program such as Photoshop or Gimp.
While Bridge does allow you to watermark images in bulk, it is my understanding that it does so using Photoshop actions.

If you only want to change the resolution of an image and not its on-screen dimensions, just make sure the Resample options is not chosen
Image > Image Size (⌘ + ⌥ + I on Mac and CMD + Shift + I on Windows)
As one user mentioned in their comment just now, you can't make pixels appear from nothing. Increasing an image's resolution does not mean it will magically look crisp at higher zoom levels. Images will only be as sharp as they were when created.
