Is there a way in PS to resize .jpeg files to a specific file size, like 150mb, by setting the exact file size? When I save a .jpeg, I don't see any way to know what file size PS is savaing or change it on the flow, so currently the only way I can do this is by multiple savings and guesswork what size in pixels 150mp should be, and this process is a huge time waste which I wish to eliminate.

PS I'm on Windows.

I am trying to make a multi-layer stencil effect in PS CS6.

How I got here:
1. Made several copies of original image
2. Image> Adjustments> Threshold, for each one at different levels.
3. Select > Colour Range > Highlights + delete. Gets rid of the white, leaving just the blackness of the threshold effect.
4. Make adjustment layer for to change the Hue/Saturation. Giving me different grays.

However, Ideally I would like to be able to change threshold levels, as a live effect, so I can see how the layers stack. Cannot quite figure out whether this is possible or not.

Once I remove the white, there's no turning back.

Any ideas how I could use the threshold effect with on a transparent background?

I appreciate your time!

TL;DR: How could I use the threshold function as black/transparent not black/white.

There's a website composition slant that I've been seeing increasingly in locales I go over. The thing is, I don't recognize what it's formally called, so I don't know what to look like for the subject in website composition destinations or web journals. I'd jump at the chance to discover instructional exercises and articles with respect to tips and best practices, yet I haven't discovered any and don't realize what individuals are calling this plan style.

Fundamentally, it's having a long first page (or inside pages as well) with heaps of level areas with enormous pictures and content. It's similar to one-page destinations, however it's not one-page. It's similar to Parallax, however it doesn't generally utilize the parallax impact (not really in any event). It likewise goes nearly as an inseparable unit with responsive plan, as it shares that long vertical organization made for heaps of looking over.

A few cases of what I'm alluding to: marketo.com, ginzametrics.com, kinhr.com

I'd welcome any assistance finding the official name of this, if there's any, or additionally any related articles or assets.

It seems I could export as a very high resolution raster image and then trace that but that seems less than proper.

If your client is commenting that the photos are "blurry," this may not be what you think. Perhaps the client is looking at the banner in an enlarged view (not actual size) making the photos' pixels noticeable. If this is the case, you need to talk your client off the ledge. Instruct the client to view the banner in a web browser (FILE > OPEN), not from an email, nor from double clicking on the attachment in an email.

@Frith110

I have had this same issue and can only do it the manual way.

Illustrator has Artboards, not pages - right? Each Artboard has to be the size of the bleeded spread (for example 17.25" wide x 11.25" tall). I like to automatically add crop marks of the 8.5x11 sheet by drawing 8.5x11 boxes and then select menu EFFECTS > CROP MARK.

Another idea is to export your final Illustrator Artboards to InDesign spreads. And then let InDesign take it from there (Save as PDF with cropmarks).

Is this too manual or were you hoping for a one-click answer?

@Frith110

Posted in: #Grids #Layout #PageLayout #ResourceRecommendations

I've been wondering if there's a universal grid structure to use regardless of format/page size/proportions? While researching online or reading professional books i usually can see that there are a lot of examples of many division types but never a guideline to start with in any occasion.

I started experimenting with dividing length and height of any format i worked on by 10. Which gave me always 100 modules with exactly the same proportions as the the whole format. Then i read web designers usually use 12 or 24 modules horizontally because the're easily dividable by 2,3 and 4.

So i started dividing each format's length and height by 12. Do you have any suggestions, what other approach i could use in any situation regardless of the graphics material type (posters, ads, posts, catalogs etc.)? Maybe something related to golden ratio, Fibonacci sequence or musical proportions?

By taking the example you've quoted here,

li.list selects all <li> elements with class="list" (.class selector)
.list li selects all <li> elements that are children of any element with a class="list" (element element selector)

@Frith110

The right tool to use is Illustrator, not Photoshop.

Making evenly spaced lines at four slants (horizontal, vertical, and both diagonal directions) and combining them in a "Live Paint Group" will get you about 90% of the way there; the rest is just choosing colors and clicking to fill.

If you don't have Illustrator available and this is just for curiosity/learning project, choose some project more suitable for Photoshop as this is really not where Photoshop's strength lies. You can do it, but it will be hard and weird and you won't learn what the tool is really for.

If you don't have Illustrator and you actually need an image with this design for a real project, buy the image. ;)

@Frith110

You can't select the clipping path to color it because the layer is locked.

You can unlock the layer by clicking the lock icon just to the left of the layer in your layers panel list.

However, that's a bad idea as the printing company locked that layer for a reason. You don't want to accidentally modify that layer or reshape it; then they won't be able to print your order correctly and will have to reject your file.

Instead, you should create a NEW object (on the "place art here" layer) that is the color you want. Don't worry about it being the right shape. Just make a gigantic square the color you want, and, if the file is set up the way it should be (I haven't checked) and your object is on the "place art here" layer, it will be automatically clipped by the clipping path layer already present.

A tip I wish I'd known when I started working in Illustrator: pay attention to the "layers" panel. New objects you draw will go onto the layer currently selected. But the currently selected layer changes when you select a different object, so if you don't pay attention to it, you can wind up with hundreds of objects scattered across a bizarre chaos of layer hierarchy. Cleaning that up and organizing it is painful. It's MUCH easier to keep your layers organized from the start by paying some attention to the layers panel.

(Note that this is VERY different from InDesign, which I was more familiar with when starting in Illustrator. In InDesign, all your work is on ONE layer unless you explicitly create another. In Illustrator, each object can be on its own new layer if you don't pay attention.)

It appears the file is not set up quite right.

Unlock the CLIPPING PATH layer.
Lock both its sublayers.
Drag the "place art here" layer into the "CLIPPING PATH" layer as its bottom layer.
Click the CLIPPING PATH layer, which now contains everything but the "delete" layer.
In the layers panel menu, click "Make clipping mask."
Select the "place art here" layer and draw your artwork.

You'll get something like so:

@Frith110

I ran into something similar. If you want to ONLY tweak this one corner and not other corners:

Select the object.
Press A for Direct Selection tool. Small circles will be displayed at each corner for "live corner" options.
Click on the one circle for the corner you're interested in. (Don't click and drag, that will change ALL corners.)
After clicking to select that one "live corner" circle, then click and drag. It will make the corner rounded instead of angled.
Click on "Corners" in your top bar. (It will be underlined.) An options window will appear for that specific live corner.
Change the "Corner" option (shape of the corner) from "round" to "chamfer" (bevel).
Adjust the "live corner" circle so that it is almost zero distance of "rounding" (beveling).

Alternatively you could adjust the miter limit (reduce it) or the corner mode (for the whole shape. However, these will change ALL the corners in the object. Which might be fine for this case, but the method I gave above will only change the corner you want to change.

Another option: Add a second anchor point a very small distance away. (Zoom in hugely first.) Then you will have two obtuse angles rather than one acute angle, and you won't have the corner join the way it is now.

My business partner and I paid for advertising in a neighborhood directory that is published annually. The designer send us a proof of the ad which we approved. After the directory was published, an error in the font of our ad was noticed.

The error happened for the initial letters of our first names (the name of our business!). So the initial letters are K's and they look small in comparison with the rest of our name and all of the wording below our name (apparently the font messed up and didn't print the curved parts with the K's). The rest of the half page ad was done as per the proof.

Basically, we approved an ad (the proof looked great) but something happened in production (the font issue) that messed up our names (and it is in 2 different places - the ad and on the divider tab that goes with our ad). The items cannot be reprinted (our ad is one of many in addition to the names and addresses of all in the neighborhood). This directory is only printed annually so now the error remains all year.

The company is asking what remedy we are asking for. Should we get all of our money back? Should we ask for half of it? Any suggestions would be appreciated!

 query : Re: How to smoothen such jagged edges on curves? I am newbie photoshop designer (not really a designer). I have this design done by me , you can clearly see those non-smooth curves, I want to

@Frith110

Logos should not be created in Photoshop. The reason is that Photoshop is for editing raster images, and whatever size you make them, that is the size they will be.

Instead, make logos in Illustrator as vector graphics. That way, they can be scaled to any output size and will never be pixelated.

Raster images store color information for each pixel (each small square). Vector images store a mathematical description of curves and angles. They're fundamentally different, and for artwork that should be scaleable to any size, vector artwork is immeasurably more appropriate than raster images.

If you place that artwork into Illustrator, there are several "Trace" options you can use to create vector artwork based upon it.

This goes triply if you didn't create the logo yourself and already have it in SVG form. If I sent an SVG logo to a designer for a color change and adding a circle and got back a pixelated PNG and no SVG, I would be extremely annoyed.

@Frith110

Do your photo editing work in Photoshop, the raster image editor.

Pure vector work is best done in Illustrator.

Note that Illustrator objects can be placed into Photoshop documents as "smart objects" (retaining editability) and vice versa.

For layout work incorporating both vector images and photographs (or other raster images), use InDesign. It has some native vector tools, but for anything very fancy you will want to drop into Illustrator and then place the resulting .ai file into your InDesign document.

In Photoshop you deal with a "canvas"; in Illustrator you have "artboards" and in InDesign you have "pages" or you can have "spreads" with more than one page.

All three tools have their place in a professional workflow. From the information in your question, I think you should start by learning InDesign and then dive into Photoshop or Illustrator if/when you hit something you need to do that you can't do in InDesign. (And I would guess you know a bit of Photoshop already.)
